Road widenings, new access route are county's big highway projects
Four road widening/repavings and the construction of a short new thoroughfare for a developing business highlight projects to be undertaken by the Defiance County engineer’s office this year.
The new asphalt road — stretching only about a half mile — will be constructed in Delaware Township, south of Defiance County Road 424, to serve the new First Quality manufacturing facility being built west of Defiance. Funds provided to Defiance County commissioners through the state’s new All Ohio Future Fund will cover this cost, estimated at $1 million.
This project will require two contracts — one for cement stabilization to build the base (bids will be opened Monday) and one for paving. The latter is part of the county’s larger resurfacing contract already awarded to Gerken Paving, Inc., Napoleon.

News Hardin County Engineer’s Office Announces Reopening of County Road 30
The Hardin County Engineer’s Office announced a road opening.
County Road 30, between Township Road 135 and County Road 125, reopened today.
That section of road closed March 16 for a bridge replacement project.

Richland County engineer expects to spend about $600K on 2026 asphalt
RICHLAND COUNTY — Richland County expects to spend around $600,000 on asphalt this year to patch and resurface small portions of county roads.
County commissioners on Tuesday approved bids from Sarver Paving in Ashland and Mar-Zane Materials of Mansfield to supply the materials county Engineer Adam Gove needs for his department to handle the repairs.
The funds will pay to purchase around 5,000 tons of 441 asphalt concrete surface and 3,000 tons of 301 asphalt concrete base, according to Gove.

Auglaize County Engineer Andrew Baumer Discusses Funding, Winter Response, Road Work on Spectrum
Auglaize County Engineer Andrew Baumer says fuel taxes and license plate fees remain critical to maintaining the county’s roads and bridges, even as inflation continues to cut into the office’s buying power.
Speaking on Spectrum, Baumer said the Auglaize County Engineer’s Office operates on a budget of about $7.4 million, with roughly $3.9 million of that coming from the state gas tax. He said more than half of the office’s annual spending goes directly toward road and bridge projects, with the rest covering equipment, repairs, fuel, salaries, benefits, and building maintenance.
Baumer said Auglaize County is responsible for maintaining about 350 miles of roads and 350 bridges. He noted the office tries to stretch its budget by using county crews to handle as much work in house as possible.

Ottawa County road to close for a month for bridge replacement
OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — A road that runs along the border between Ottawa and Wood counties will be closed for over a month as workers replace a bridge over Crane Creek.
The bridge is located on Fostoria Road and Trowbridge Road east of Millbury.
Plans for the project indicate the work will include modifying the abutments and replacing the bridge’s deck, as well as the installation of new railings.
